Torah Portion KORACH- Bamidbar (Numbers) 17-19
Do not weary yourself to gain wealth, cease from your consideration of it. When you set your eyes on it, it is gone. For wealth certainly makes itself wings like an eagle that flies toward the heavens. Proverbs 23:4-5
Shabbat shalom dearly beloved,
Many years ago when we were on a Sabbatical year from ministry, the Holy Spirit led us to join for a short while a networking company of health products. It sounded exciting to do something else for a change after many years of only ministry. It also gave us a glimpse into a very young and vibrant group of Israelis that were being coached for financial and personal success. The meetings of this company were more dynamic, energetic and loving than any church meeting I knew. There was a lot of coaching that was based on some Biblical principles for success and even some verses of Scripture being quoted. However it was mixed with New Age and occult practices such as "kundalini yoga" and some mind control. We stayed clear of these things and took the good, thus advancing in the company from the first weeks as "meteorites". That allowed me to be on stage very often before hundreds and even thousands of Israelis at times sharing the Word and even singing as well as sharing practical things for the company.
Many of the Israelis that got to know us were very attracted to us and we shared about Yeshua a lot. One young man got really saved and spirit filled through us and even married one of our former team members. Others are still seeking and "bump into us" occasionally and observe our faith and lifestyle even though we left the company long ago.
We stayed with that company for less than a year. As our Sabbatical was ending YHVH closed and blocked all our former success and we could advance no more. We understood that our allowed time was up and we needed to "exit". Many of the people that knew us world- wide tried financial success with that company as we recruited them and they followed our example. Some succeeded and many did not and were very disappointed. Though we kept our faith vibrant believing this type of business to be a blessing from YHVH, I noticed that in order to really succeed in it there was a need to dedicate ourselves to it spirit, soul and body. I also noticed that if believers that go into this type of business are not careful they can fall into New Age and occult and they won't even notice as most coaching has a mixture of both Biblical Principles + New Age.
 Most people that were recruited came in because of the temptation to get rich FAST and that was the big danger! People were trained to make friends in order to recruit them to the company quickly. This was a type of "financial evangelism". In fact the training emphasized not to lose any opportunity for recruiting. It was all consuming!
All in all it was a positive experience for us and we learnt many things and made many connections that could lead people to salvation BUT the most important thing we learnt is that any desire for "fast money" comes from the wrong source. The Bible warns us about getting rich quickly!
A man with an evil eye hastens after wealth and does not know that want will come upon him. Proverbs 28:22
YHVH wants to bless us but when His blessing comes there is no grief or sorrow with it but His blessing is connected with faithfulness and righteousness.
The blessing of YHVH makes one rich and He adds no sorrow with it. Proverbs 10:22
I believe that YHVH led us to join the company during our Sabbatical year from ministry in order to reach out to another part of the Israeli society and in order to learn first-hand of the traps of this kind of business. The Holy Spirit leads us very often in unconventional ways. Many years ago we started a church and an outreach ministry in the hardest place in Dallas, Texas called "Deep Ellem" where all the disco-bars, neo Nazis, transvestites, bikers and punk rockers hung out. Yeshua led us to buy our ticket into the worst night club there in order to intercede and for the Gospel to be preached. We are called to be in the world but not of the world and often we need to get into some "hell holes" in order to reach out to the people.
 When we obeyed Yah to experiment with this network marketing company little did we know then that many ministers of the Gospel and even big leaders were "trapped" in it. I say "trapped" because we realized that there is no way to be faithful and righteous in Ministry and still last for too long in these kind of companies that depend upon "recruiting others". A pastor or leader that has access into a large mailing list as well as extended communities of believers will not be able to keep a pure motivation when seeking to grow his business by recruiting his own people. The pursuit of these companies though masked as "personal improvement for life" is nothing but the pursuit of Mammon. Satan disguises himself as an angel of light and so it is with these companies. Everything looks attractive, very attractive, exciting, dynamic and loving but it is dark, very dark!
No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 2 Corinthians 11:14
Upon our arrival to Lima, Peru during our last ministry trip we were approached by two of our disciples concerning a cyber-network marketing business (that means that there are no products so you sell "air"). One of those that approached us is a pastor under our ministry. He wanted to know my opinion about it as he was investing family savings into this business and it was causing family strife like never before. Praise Yah that I could share with him my experience and the knowledge that I acquired while obeying Yah to join the said network marketing company for a short period of time. I believe that my counseling on this has rescued him from shipwrecking his High Calling and his family from untold strife and suffering.
While ministering to him, Yah spoke to me "Fast Money". He showed me clearly that any time we want to make money fast, it is the love of mammon that is leading us and not the love of Yah (God).
The love of Mammon brings about a lot of suffering!
For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.1 Timothy 6:10
 Later on I received an email from another believer and former disciple wanting to propose the same business to me. Praise Yah that I had the knowledge and the experience in order to warn him of any desire for "fast money". I explained to him that this type of business is all consuming and it will taint all his relationships with a false motivation of self -interest to "recruit" as many as possible. Again this is led by the love of mammon and not the love of Yah. He was quite surprised of what I told him as I warned him to escape from this kind of business.
He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves abundance with its income. This too is vanity. Ecclesiastes 5:10
He shared with me that many big, well known pastors and ministers are involved in this and are dragging their people in by the droves. Many pastors from Brazil with large congregations had joined in. The fact is that these pastors just like we were, will be like "meteorites" in the company because they will profit from a fast recruiting of their people but the simple people that have no mailing lists will end up disappointed and many will end up broke.
Another dangerous issue is that the motivation of these pastors will not remain pure but rather tainted with the love of mammon and self- interest and of course that is the downfall of any ministry. In fact the desire for a "quick financial fix" is the downfall of many people. All of it is rooted in the love of mammon and in fear and it is contrary to Biblical Principles that emphasize faithfulness, diligence and loyalty. Network marketing companies feed on "hype" masked as "training". It may be that you are called to be in one of them for "Kingdom Purposes" like we did but most of the time it is the desire for "fast money" that leads people!
There is a grievous evil which I have seen under the sun: riches being hoarded by their owner to his hurt. Ecclesiastes 5:13
Why is it that so many pastors and leaders get tempted to enter such a business? The financial demands of ministry are huge and many pastors and leaders have suffered personal and family lack while trying to fund the vision. The ignorance of many of God's People concerning Righteous and Holy Giving coupled with wrong financial teachings have left many pastors and ministers financially sick and hurting.
This article is not intended to judge any of these pastors, leaders and believers that have fallen prey to network marketing in its various forms. Its purpose is to warn you from all desire to "fast money" and to be restored to the ancient paths of faithfulness, diligence, trust and wisdom that bring REST to our souls.
Thus says the Lord, "Stand by the ways and see and ask for the ancient paths,
Where the good way is, and walk in it; and you will find rest for your souls. Jeremiah 6:16a
There is nothing wrong with a healthy business. YHVH has been teaching me for years to be wise in the business arena. In fact I believe that many more believers and ministers should have their own business and learn to be wise investors and not be depending on employers. He gives us power to make wealth and as long as we pursue Him and obey His principles, wealth will be added unto us (Matthew 6:33)
But you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth, that He may confirm His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day. Deuteronomy 8:18
We are called to be the head and not the tail. I have no doubt that the Holy Spirit can give all of us creative business ideas. I also know that when we are faithful and willing in our giving for the right motivations like "to honor YHVH" (Proverbs 3: 9,10) and honor those that teach the Word to us (Galatians 6:6-8), then He can and will open some miraculous financial opportunities. Most people give their tithes and offerings expecting instant results and becoming extremely disappointed when instant results don't happen!
YHVH is calling us to a marathon and not to a short sprint.
 He is calling us to be faithful in little before He can bless us with much! When people are not diligent in their "small jobs" why would He entrust you with riches? If you are not faithful to tithe and to give from your small income why would he entrust you with a great income?
He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much. Luke 16:10
Faithfulness, diligence, commitment and pure motivations in order to inherit the Promises in His Word is of the essence. Patience and long suffering is needed if we are to be healthy spiritually and financially.
So that you will not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises. Hebrews 6:12
I have no doubt that a life time of faithfulness and righteous giving and receiving from a pure motivation of honor, faith and love will always be rewarded on the long run.
The reward of humility and the fear of the Lord Are riches, honor and life. Proverbs 22:4
And meanwhile let us get rid of any anxiety in the financial arena and as you obey and trust our Abba Shebashamayim (Heavenly Father), know that He will provide all that we need and even more than we can imagine.
Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, 21 to Him be the glory in the church and in Messiah Yeshua to all generations forever and ever. Amen. Ephesians 3:20,21
Let us be content and full of gratefulness for He is good and His Mercy endures forever! Even when we are in debt or seek to develop a business it is essential to be content and grateful. It is only in that faith atmosphere that we will see miracles. Some- times they will be instant miracles and some- times they will happen in a process. Even if you are in debt, just be faithful to pay your debt in monthly installments. You will see that YHVH will back you up when you do the right thing.
The generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches are in his house,
And his righteousness endures forever. Psalm 112:3,4
Stop scheming in your minds how to get rich quickly, be faithful in your tithing and giving, be diligent in your work or ministry and one day you will look back and see that faithfulness and diligence always pay the highest dividends!
Poor is he who works with a negligent hand, but the hand of the diligent makes rich. Proverbs 10:4
